Her mother gave birth at a Shell station and Chris was present during the delivery. But in her book Strause denies the gossip on her birth. She told Strause that her mother was experiencing car troubles and she parked at a station. In the waiting area at the car station, she went into pre-labor and the car attendant was genuinely helpful in getting her to an emergency room. Strause was born in hospital. Her mother divorced from her biological father who was half Japanese/half Spanish before she knew she was pregnant. Jeff is her stepfather. Chrishell Strause had to live in a tent in middle school, which meant she was absent for the entire academic year. Strause revealed her experiences of hiding her existence from her peers by recounting the way she washed her hair in the rivers and applying for food stamps. When she was 10 years old, her parents "struggled with mental and addiction health." Strause then joined the Worldwide Church of God. Strause says her mother was having a free spirit and self-righteous. Her mother didn't have a steady job.
